Kora National Park
Kampi ya Simba
Tractor. The tractor / trailer / water bowser donated by TUSK Trust,
WildiZe Foundation, Born Free and Martin Woodcock are up and running.
We will pin down a full-time driver in time.
Apart from the big plastic storage containers, we also have built
sedimentation tanks and upgraded the pumping system.
The trailer is bringing in building sand and will also soon be used for the
village trips. When we have a road team in place, and once the team is
established, the tractor will un-hitch the trailer and fit on the scraper
blade to improve the road surface.

Radio Communications. We have started installing the VHF radio
system. We have put in place the antenna, the repeater box (the box was
made here in Mkomazi), the solar panels, batteries, controllers and the
wiring. Fred Ayo went into Kora with a technician from Nairobi and they
installed the repeater and base camp radio. This seems to be working
well so far. We are now covered virtually the whole way in from the
Kyuso town to Kampi ya Simba, as well as upstream and downstream.
We have installed a base station in the KWS rangers’ camp at the airstrip
so that the KYS staff can communicate with them.

We have a fixed satellite dish in place at Kampi ya Simba and once again
we paid for an engineer to come up from Nairobi to assist with the
installation of the system.
