New fence posts, cantilevers and wire are being replaced and maintained throughout the whole length of the Mkomazi Rhino Sanctuary fence line. We are almost meeting our targets on this essential fence post replacement and we are on track with continuing this enormous task.
Two further internal security outposts have been constructed and an external security outpost has gone up with a commanding view of the main area where the rhinos move to in the wet season. We were honoured to welcome the new Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism and Natural Resources, Mrs Tarishi, who visited with her senior directors and managers.
Dr Idrissa Chuma, the veterinary officer for TANAPA, also spent some time in the Rhino Sanctuary earlier in the year. The rhino calves are all in good condition. We have a new little bull calf called Bernard, (named after the Chairman of our Tanzanian trust, Bernard Mchomvu). We have new underground and overground fuel storage tanks in the workshop. We have taken advantage of the dry weather to overhaul all the machines.
