The three Czech rhino are in excellent health. The rain throughout December has turned the dry shrubs and grasses into an abundance of green. The rhinos’ condition benefits enormously from such nutritious vegetation.
James, a resident bull rhino who arrived in Mkomazi in 1997, has shown his face one too many times near the fenced off area containing two of the Czech rhino (one male and one female). So we swung into action. The guys put up another entire separation fence, 2 km in length, electrified, alarmed and at a 6 foot distance from the actual original separation fence. On to this, they added a cantilever on each side with electrified wires running down both lengths. And more night patrols.
The other rhino and their calves are in good condition.
